Introduction to the School

The School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, which was established in 1983, has grown to become a multifaceted organization featuring vigor and diversity, providing BA programs in English, Japanese, and Translation, MA program in Foreign Language and Literature, and MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting). Our courses are offered in three campuses, situated in Chengdu, Pengzhou, and Yibin, respectively. More than 80 percent of the 109 faculty members hold PhD or master's degrees, and some of them have worked or studied overseas in countries like America, Australia, Britain, and Japan, etc. Our School has a total of 29 multimedia classrooms, 5 translation and interpretation labs, and 1 library.

Our School places much emphasis on fostering graduates that are application-oriented, highly proficient in foreign languages with a broad range of knowledge. Much progress has been made concerning the development of our School. As of 2022, the BA program in Translation had been approved as one of the Provincial First-class Majors. Faculty members at our School have undertaken more than 80 projects with institutions affiliated to the provincial government or research bases, as well as 8 projects from the National Social Science Fund of China or the Ministry of Education. Our achievements include more than 20 academic monographs, 12 textbooks, roughly 600 academic papers, and 8 novels translated among which, 20 have received honors bestowed by authorities, societies or organizations at all levels.

Students from our School could pursue continued study at universities in the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Thailand, and other countries by tapping into the resources provided by Xihua University. Additionally, to offer students opportunities for training and internships, our School has been collaborating with middle and primary schools, translation agencies, and training institutions. More than 500 students of our school have received awards at provincial or national level, and the employment rate each year has been above 90%.
